Commentary:
for Israel's sons Or, 'for the Israelites.' Some say that these letters on the right sardonyx shone as a sign that a sacrifice was accepted (Josephus, Antiquities 8:8:9).
| settings These are the ones mentioned in Exodus 28:11 (cf. Rashi; Mizrachi). Some say that these settings had attached rings through which the cables were passed (Yad, Kley HaMikdash 9:9; Avraham ben HaRambam; Midrash HaGadol; cf. Josephus, Antiquities 3:7:5).
