1:5	The [original] number of Jacob's direct descendants, including Joseph who was in Egypt, was seventy. Vayehi kol-nefesh yots'ey yerech-Ya'akov shiv'im nafesh veYosef hayah veMitsrayim.
1:6	Joseph, his brothers, and [everyone else in] that generation died. Vayamot Yosef vechol-echav vechol hador hahu.
1:7	The Israelites were fertile and prolific, and their population increased. They became so numerous that the land was filled with them. Uveney Yisra'el paru vayishretsu vayirbu vaya'atsmu bime'od me'od vatimale ha'arets otam.
