Janthina
In Animals. It is presumed that the Janthina was one of the sources from which a blue dye for the Tabernacle was obtained. It is a non-kosher, deep water snail. See Exodus 25:4

Diet: Herbivorous

Habitat: Most temperate and tropical oceans.

Jay
In Animals. Possibly the bird used in a cleansing ritual for members of the congregation who have overcome leprosy. (See Leviticus 14:4 ).

It is a kosher, shy member of the crow family.

Diet: Carnivorous/Herbivorous

Habitat: Woodland

Voice: Wide range of calls (mimics human speech).

Jerboa
In Animals. The Hebrew term shafan of Leviticus 11:5 is believed by some translators to be a reference to a hyrax . Some scholars dispute this and suggest instead that the term should be viewed as a reference to a jerboa. The text states that the above animal be regarded as non-kosher and unclean.

The jerboa resembles a miniature kangaroo.

Diet: Herbivorous

Habitat: Africa, East Europe and Asia.
